Phishing links, hijacked SMS codes and malicious browser extensions can all lead to lost funds. Binance account security starts with the controls a trader sets and checks personally.

Each layer tackles a different route in: a Binance passkey resists fake login pages, an authenticator app reduces reliance on SMS, and an anti-phishing code helps expose forged messages. If an account shows signs of compromise, speed matters.

In this article, Backcom.io explains nine settings, how to enable them using official guidance, and what to do if you suspect unauthorized access.

Why Binance Account Security Fails: Six Common Attacks

Binance account security begins with recognizing how attackers reach an account. In its 2026 crypto scam report, published on 13 January 2026, Chainalysis said scams received at least $14 billion on-chain in 2025 and estimated the total could exceed $17 billion. Impersonation scams rose 1,400% from 2024. Six routes deserve attention:

  • Fake login pages and emails: A convincing copy of the exchange can capture a password and any verification code entered there.
  • Fake security texts: A message warns of an unfamiliar login, then pushes the trader to verify through a shortened link.
  • SIM swapping: An attacker takes control of a phone number and receives SMS codes meant for its owner.
  • Malicious apps and extensions: They may steal a login session or replace a wallet address copied to the clipboard.
  • Address poisoning: A lookalike wallet address shares a few opening and closing characters with a familiar one, inviting a copy error.
  • Fake support agents: A caller claims there is an account problem and asks for a 2FA code or screen sharing.

Pressure to send money, especially from someone posing as an authority, also appears among the warning signs of a forex broker scam.

9 Binance Account Security Settings In Priority Order

Binance account security checklist: secure email, passkey, authenticator app, 2FA, anti-phishing code, withdrawal whitelist, devices, API keys and Binance Verify
9 Binance Account Security Settings In Priority Order

Binance account security settings should cover the mailbox, the login, and finally the route out of the account. These nine measures follow that order:

#SettingRisk It Addresses
1Unique email password and email 2FAExposed password or hijacked inbox
2Passkey plus a backup passkeyFake login page or SIM takeover
3Authenticator app instead of SMSIntercepted or hijacked SMS code
42FA strategy for assetsAttacker holding only one verification factor
5Anti-phishing codeForged emails and texts
6Withdrawal whitelistWithdrawals to unfamiliar wallets or copied addresses
7Device management and alertsUnrecognized sessions left active
8Minimum API permissions and IP restrictionsLeaked third-party tool keys
9Binance Verify and official appFake support and counterfeit apps

The priority order is an editorial assessment of how to reduce the risk of losing funds, based on Binance documents reviewed on 14 October 2026. Menu labels can vary slightly between app versions.

Start with the email account that receives alerts and verification codes. Use a password different from the exchange password, enable email 2FA, and review signed-in devices. Reusing one password across services weakens every later safeguard.

Binance 2FA: Passkey, Authenticator App Or SMS?

Binance 2FA compared: a passkey resists fake login pages, an authenticator app resists SIM swaps, SMS is easier to intercept
Binance 2FA: Passkey, Authenticator App Or SMS?

Binance 2FA adds verification when you log in, withdraw, or change settings. A passkey or authenticator app deserves priority over relying on SMS alone, because a compromised phone number can expose texted codes.

MethodAgainst Fake Login PagesAgainst SIM SwappingIf You Lose Your Phone
Synced passkeyStrong: bound to the correct domainStrongAccess to sync account required
USB/NFC security keyStrongStrongBackup key required
Authenticator appCode can still be entered on a fake pageStrongRecovery method required
SMSWeakWeakRecover the SIM
EmailWeakIndependent of the SIMProtect the inbox

This comparison follows how the methods work; it is not a Binance ranking.

Backcom.io does not consider SMS alone strong enough for an account holding substantial assets. Equally, traders should avoid requiring a passkey for critical actions while they have only one passkey.

What Is A Binance Passkey And How Do You Set One Up?

A Binance passkey is a cryptographic credential that lets you log in or verify an action using a fingerprint, Face ID, or your device screen lock. Set it up in five steps:

  1. Update the Binance app to version 2.60 or later, on iOS 16 or Android 9 or later.
  2. In the app, open [Security]. On the web, go to [Account] → [Security].
  3. Select [Passkey (Biometrics)] → [Add Passkey]. On the web, select [Manage] first.
  4. Verify with an existing method, confirm the email, and select [Continue].
  5. Choose where to store it, such as iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager, or a USB/NFC key. Then create a backup passkey.

See Binance’s passkey setup guide.

Warning: The “Must verify using passkey for important scenarios” option could leave you unable to log in or withdraw if you lose the passkey. Have at least two passkeys before enabling it, and review the option before changing phones.

Authenticator Apps And A 2FA Verification Strategy

Binance Authenticator and Google Authenticator generate a six-digit code that changes every 30 seconds. Keep the 16-character setup key so you can move the authenticator to another device if needed.

The 2FA Verification Strategy covers Login, Assets, and Account Settings. Binance guidance dated 21 July 2026 says it is available to users who have completed KYC or hold more than 100 USDT in account assets:

  1. Open [Security], find [2FA Verification Strategy], and select [Manage].
  2. Select [Add Strategy], read the rules, confirm, and select [Continue].
  3. Choose [Assets], which includes withdrawals and transfers.
  4. Require multiple verification steps, such as a passkey together with an authenticator app.

Binance Anti-Phishing Code: Spot Fake Emails, Texts And Links

Binance Anti-Phishing Code: Spot Fake Emails, Texts And Links

A Binance anti-phishing code is a string you choose to help identify genuine Binance messages. Once enabled, it appears in Binance emails and SMS. According to its FAQ updated 28 August 2026, the code must contain 6–8 characters and at least three of these four types: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, digits, and underscores. Do not use other special characters. On the web:

  1. Go to [Account] → [Security], then find [Advanced Security].
  2. Select [Enable] beside [Anti-Phishing Code], then [Create].
  3. Enter a code meeting the character rules and select [Submit].
  4. Verify using your current 2FA method or passkey.

See Binance’s anti-phishing code FAQ.

Remember: The code can flag a forged email or text. It does not prove that a link or caller is safe. Change the code if you think it has been exposed.

Check Emails, Texts, Links And Calls With Binance Verify

Binance Verify provides a way to check identity details, but the message and your account activity still need scrutiny. Check four things:

  • Emails and texts: Compare the message with your anti-phishing code. For shortened links, open the app yourself and inspect account activity.
  • Links and apps: Type the website address yourself or open the app from an official store; avoid login links sent privately.
  • Calls and social media: Never give a 2FA code or share your screen with someone claiming to be support.
  • Binance Verify: Enter a URL, email address, phone number, or social media account to check identifying information.

A private message demanding a “tax” payment before a withdrawal also needs independent checking against the actual tax rules where you live — real tax obligations never arrive through chat apps.

Stop Unauthorized Withdrawals: Whitelist, Devices And API Keys

Withdrawal controls are the last gate in Binance account security. They restrict where assets can go, and who can act on the account, even if a password has leaked.

How To Enable The Withdrawal Whitelist

A withdrawal whitelist permits withdrawals only to saved addresses. Binance’s FAQ updated 3 March 2024 states a limit of 200 addresses. To enable it:

  1. In [Settings], open withdrawals and choose [Address Management] → [Add]. Add a label, select the asset and network, tick the whitelist option, save, and verify.
  2. Return to withdrawals, select [Enable] beside the whitelist, and confirm with an existing security method.
  3. Turn on [Whitelist Withdrawal Limit] so newly added addresses cannot receive funds during the waiting period you choose.
  4. Consider turning off [One-Step Withdrawal] if you want verification for every withdrawal; it can skip 2FA for small withdrawals to saved addresses.

Withdrawal Holds After Security Changes

Withdrawal holds slow an immediate transfer of funds after an account’s security status changes. The timing depends on the action:

Manage Devices, Sessions And API Keys

  • Unknown devices: In [Security], check the IP address and login time, then remove any device you do not recognize.
  • Alerts: Enable notifications for logins, password changes, and withdrawals so unusual activity is easier to catch.
  • API keys: Grant only the permissions a tool needs. A monitoring tool usually needs read access; a trading bot needs permissions appropriate to futures or spot. Binance requires IP restrictions when withdrawal permission is enabled.
  • Unused keys: Delete old API keys. An exposed key with futures permission could open leveraged positions. Under cross margin, the shared futures wallet balance may be at risk.

Binance Account Hacked? What To Do After An Unknown Login

If you suspect your Binance account was hacked, look for a changed balance, a trade or withdrawal you did not place, an unknown device, a new API key, or changed contact details. Act in this order:

Disable the account → Contact support through in-app chat → Change email and Binance passwords → Check devices and API keys → Unlock only after cleaning the devices

  1. Disable the account immediately: In the app, go to [Security] → [Account Management] → [Disable Account]. On the web, go to [Account] → [Security] → [Account Management] → [Disable]. This pauses trading and withdrawals and revokes related access routes. See Binance’s account disabling guide.
  2. Report it through official support chat: Provide the time of the unfamiliar login, alert emails, and transaction IDs you did not initiate. Open chat from the app or a website you accessed yourself.
  3. Change the email password first, then the exchange password: Review email forwarding rules and unfamiliar apps with access to your inbox.
  4. Clean your devices: Scan for malware, remove unrecognized browser extensions, and inspect devices used for logins.
  5. Unlock and rebuild the protections: Create a new passkey or 2FA method, then review the anti-phishing code, withdrawal whitelist, and API keys.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About Binance Account Security

Is A Binance Passkey Safer Than Google Authenticator?

Against fake login pages, yes. A passkey works only with the right domain, while a six-digit authenticator code can be typed into an imitation page. A synced passkey also depends on the security of the Apple or Google account that stores it. Keep an authenticator app as a backup and enable 2FA on the sync account.

How Do You Recover A Binance Account After Losing Your Phone Or 2FA?

Binance provides a 2FA reset process from its official login page if you lose access to a verification method. After a reset, withdrawals and P2P may be suspended for up to 48 hours. A backup passkey and a saved setup key lower the risk of being locked out. Use the official app or a website you enter yourself.

Can A Binance Account Still Be Hacked With 2FA Enabled?

Yes. Binance 2FA blocks someone who has only your password, but a manually entered code can still be captured on a fake page. A stolen SIM or malicious extension can also undermine verification. Add a withdrawal whitelist and check devices periodically if you are concerned about a compromised account. Treat unfamiliar activity as urgent.

How Do You Reopen A Binance Account After Disabling It?

Log in through the official app or website, select [Unlock], and complete the security checks. Withdrawals and P2P may remain unavailable for up to 48 hours after unlocking. If the process fails, use official support chat. Secure your email and clean affected devices before reopening the account, or the same attacker may still have access.

Is It Safe To Keep Funds On Binance?

There is no absolute answer. The exchange manages its systems, while you control the password, 2FA methods, devices, and withdrawal addresses tied to your account. The settings in this guide reduce risks within your control. Consider how much you need for trading. A self-custody wallet has a different risk: losing its recovery phrase.

Conclusion

Binance account security works best in layers. A passkey and authenticator app protect access, the withdrawal whitelist limits destinations, and an anti-phishing code helps identify suspicious messages.

Create a backup passkey, enable app-based 2FA, and review API keys. Before using leverage, new traders should also understand how margin is calculated and browse the trading knowledge section.
