Is MEXC legit? That question became harder to answer after 26 May 2026, when the Seychelles Financial Services Authority (FSA) identified the exchange’s operator as unlicensed and began enforcement action.
A useful MEXC review also needs to examine reserves, reports of frozen accounts, trading costs and identity checks. Those details matter when asking is MEXC safe and does MEXC require KYC?
In this article, Backcom.io examines MEXC’s scale, legal status, asset protection, fees and account access using information checked as at 15 October 2026.
What Is MEXC? Scale, Legal Entity And Main Attractions
MEXC is a centralised digital asset exchange operating since 2018. The platform says it serves more than 40 million users across over 170 countries and regions. If you are new to digital assets, learn the basic trading terms before comparing exchange features.
CoinGecko’s research covering January 2025 to January 2026 recorded:
- Spot trading: MEXC held 8.2% of volume among the exchanges studied, placing second on that measure.
- Perpetual futures: Its 11.8% share placed it third in the group studied.
- New tokens: CoinGecko counted 1,281 listings over 13 months, or about 99 per month.
For contracts linked to traditional assets such as oil and gold, a separate CoinGecko report recorded $323.86 billion in cumulative MEXC volume from January 2025 to May 2026. If you are considering a product such as USOILUSDT futures, check its contract specifications and liquidity separately; exchange-wide volume says little about one market.
In its 26 May 2026 statement, the Seychelles FSA identified MX Global Ltd, registered as IBC No. 238047, as the platform’s operator.
Is MEXC Legit? Licences And The Seychelles FSA Action

Company registration and permission to provide virtual asset services are different things. MEXC’s trading scale does not settle the licensing question.
Seychelles FSA Action Against MX Global Ltd
On 26 May 2026, the FSA published its findings. Its enforcement statement makes three points:
- No required VASP licence: MX Global Ltd operated the platform without authorisation under the Virtual Asset Service Providers Act, 2024.
- Enforcement initiated: The FSA began regulatory action, referred the matter to the relevant authority and warned the public.
- Limited help with recovery: Because the operator is unlicensed, the FSA said it cannot investigate individual cases or facilitate fund recovery through supervision.
The FSA says it cannot intervene as the supervisor of a licensed entity to investigate complaints or recover users’ funds, because MX Global Ltd has no VASP licence.
Calling this a revoked Seychelles licence would be inaccurate: the regulator says no such licence was issued.
Warnings And Restrictions In Other Markets
Licensing is jurisdiction-specific. These notices and service limits should be checked again before you use the platform.
| Market | Status recorded | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Japan | The Financial Services Agency warned that MEXC Global served residents without registration. | 31 March 2023 |
| Germany | BaFin warned about unauthorised digital asset custody services. | October 2023 |
| Hong Kong | The SFC warned that MEXC targeted local investors without holding or applying for a licence. | 15 March 2024 |
| United States, United Kingdom, Canada | MEXC lists these markets among its restricted jurisdictions; check the applicable terms before use. | 15 October 2026 |
| European Union | This article has not verified a CASP licence for the operating entity. | 15 October 2026 |
| Seychelles | The FSA identified unlicensed VASP activity and initiated enforcement. | 26 May 2026 |
Status checked as at 15 October 2026; licences and available services can change.
Hong Kong also has two separate alerts. In February 2024, the SFC and police warned about websites and chat groups using the name “MEXC” in a suspected fraud case. The March notice concerns the trading platform itself; see the SFC’s MEXC Alert List entry.
Is MEXC Safe? Proof Of Reserves And Account Freezes

Is MEXC safe depends partly on whether you can access and withdraw your assets when the platform applies risk controls. Reserve disclosures are useful, but they cannot answer that question alone.
Proof Of Reserves And The Guardian Fund
In its July–August 2026 security report, MEXC published these reserve ratios:
| Asset | Reserve ratio |
|---|---|
| BTC | 288% |
| USDT | 115% |
| USDC | 114% |
| ETH | 113% |
These are rounded figures from MEXC’s published report, the reporting period used for this article as at 15 October 2026.
MEXC also reports a $100 million Guardian Fund. Its $500 million figure is a target, not a completed balance. Traders can cross-check disclosed wallet activity with on-chain tracking tools, while keeping these limits in mind:
- Proof of reserves is a snapshot: Coverage above 100% on one date does not establish the ratio later.
- It is not a full financial statement: Reserve figures alone do not prove that every liability and obligation is included.
- Fund access has conditions: Publishing wallet addresses does not mean every trading dispute qualifies for compensation.
MEXC Account Frozen: Reported Cases From 2023 To 2026
A MEXC account frozen under risk controls is a serious access problem, but a complaint alone is not proof that funds were taken.
| Period | Reported case | Published outcome |
|---|---|---|
| December 2023 | Users reported restrictions for “abnormal trading”. | No verified, shared resolution for every case. |
| April 2025 | Trader Pablo Ruiz said more than 2 million USDT was held under risk controls. | The matter was unresolved when reported. |
| July–October 2025 | The trader “White Whale” said about $3.1 million was locked, with a 12-month review period. | In late October 2025, an exchange executive apologised publicly and the funds were released. |
| February 2026 | More account restriction complaints appeared. | No common outcome has been verified. |
MEXC told Cointelegraph in its report on the $3.1 million case that risk control rules led to the restriction. That explanation does not establish the merits of every individual case.
Trustpilot’s MEXC page hides the company’s overall score after a guidelines breach and says it removed some fake reviews. At the time checked, 88% of ratings were one star. Repeated complaints concern:
- Restricted accounts.
- Long exchanges with customer support.
- Disputes over execution prices and liquidations.
Reviews are accounts of user experiences, not independently verified findings about each dispute.
MEXC Review: Trading Fees, Leverage And New Token Listings
Low trading fees matter only alongside spread, order book depth and custody risk. MEXC’s published standard rates are 0% maker and 0.05% taker for spot trading, and reference rates of 0% maker and 0.02% taker on some futures contracts. Check the exact market and account conditions before assuming those rates apply.
Three commonly cited attractions carry trade-offs:
- Low order fees: Thinly traded pairs can have wide spreads, while network withdrawal fees reduce what you receive.
- High futures leverage: A small margin deposit magnifies gains and losses, so review how liquidation prices are calculated before sizing a position. The market shock of 11 October 2025 illustrated how quickly leveraged positions can fail.
- Early token listings: Access to newer assets comes with thinner liquidity and potentially abrupt price changes.
If you have not traded derivatives before, understand how futures differ from spot before focusing on any fee saving. A lower commission cannot offset a forced liquidation or a poor fill.
Does MEXC Require KYC? Withdrawal Limits And Unverified Accounts

Does MEXC require KYC? Yes. MEXC’s 5 February 2026 notice says unverified accounts face restrictions on deposits, withdrawals and trading.
MEXC describes three account states:
- No KYC: Trading and withdrawals may be restricted. Older MEXC documents gave different limits, so there is no reliable single withdrawal maximum for all unverified users.
- Primary KYC: MEXC states a withdrawal limit of up to 80 BTC per day, subject to the account’s applicable conditions.
- Advanced KYC: The published limit can reach 200 BTC per day, still subject to account and regional conditions.
No KYC does not guarantee anonymity or an automatic right to withdraw. You also need to consider:
- Timing: A request for extra verification can arrive when you need to withdraw, even after earlier use.
- Changing limits: Older documents and country-specific terms may show different figures.
- Dispute delays: Submitting documents after risk controls start does not guarantee immediate release.
Check the withdrawal permissions shown in your own account before transferring assets.
MEXC Availability By Country: Rules And Who It Suits

Access to a website does not establish legal permission or eligibility in your country. Your residence and KYC documents can determine which services you may use.
Is MEXC Available In Your Country?
MEXC’s published terms list restricted jurisdictions, including the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. Check the current accepted and restricted country list before depositing, and confirm which entity provides the service and which products your account can access. An account that opens today may still face verification or withdrawal restrictions later.
Trading rules and tax treatment vary by place of residence. Check the requirements where you live and consult a local tax professional before depositing funds or receiving a payout. This article does not establish that MEXC holds a licence where you reside.
Who Should And Should Not Consider MEXC?
- Consider it for newer tokens only if you understand that early listing does not establish asset quality and liquidity may be thin.
- Consider it for order costs only after adding spreads, withdrawal charges and execution quality.
- Consider it if you can manage custody exposure and understand the exchange’s risk control terms.
- Avoid it if clear regulatory protection is essential: The Seychelles findings and unverified permissions elsewhere may not meet that standard.
- Avoid concentrating most of your assets there: Withdrawal limits can matter even when market prices do not move.
- Avoid starting with leveraged futures: Leverage and thin token markets add risks beyond the choice of exchange.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About MEXC
Is MEXC Legit?
There is no absolute yes or no. CoinGecko recorded substantial trading activity, and MEXC reported reserve ratios above 100% for four major assets. Yet on 26 May 2026, the Seychelles FSA identified the operator as providing services without the required VASP licence. Treat trading scale, reserve coverage and legal protection as separate questions, then check the regulator for your own jurisdiction.
Does MEXC Have A Licence?
The Seychelles FSA says the operating entity has no VASP licence and that no associated entity applied after the transition period. In March 2024, Hong Kong’s SFC said MEXC had neither a local licence nor an application. Licensing depends on jurisdiction and service, so check the official register where you live rather than assuming one market’s status applies worldwide.
Why Have Traders Reported A MEXC Account Frozen?
MEXC attributes some restrictions to risk control rules, while affected traders question the reasons given and the time taken to resolve cases. The White Whale case involved about $3.1 million from July 2025 and ended with a public apology and release of funds in late October 2025. Other complaints do not all have a verified common outcome.
Is MEXC Available And Legal In My Country?
Availability and legality depend on where you live. MEXC lists some countries as restricted, and being able to open its website does not prove you can use its services legally. Check its country and KYC terms, then consult your local regulator’s register. Trading rules and taxes vary by residence; ask a local tax professional before depositing or receiving a payout.
How Much Can I Withdraw From MEXC Without KYC?
There is no dependable universal limit for an unverified account. MEXC’s 5 February 2026 notice says users without KYC have restricted deposit, withdrawal and trading access. Older documents stated different limits. Before sending funds, check the withdrawal rights displayed in your account and the terms for your country; do not rely on an old maximum quoted elsewhere.
Conclusion: Is MEXC Legit?
Is MEXC legit? Its reported trading volume and published reserves deserve consideration, but so do the Seychelles FSA action and unresolved questions about access during risk reviews. None of these facts alone gives a trader a guaranteed outcome.
Before deciding, check the applicable licence, country restrictions, KYC rules and risk control terms. Limit the amount you could tolerate being unable to withdraw for a period, and choose between spot and futures with the product risk in mind.
