Changing your Vantage trading password is something to do the moment you suspect it has leaked, when you want tighter security, or when you simply can’t remember your MT4/MT5 login. The catch is that Vantage uses several different passwords — the Client Portal password, the trading password and the Investor password — so it’s easy to change the wrong one.
In this guide, Backcom.io walks you through changing your Vantage trading password step by step, both through the Client Portal and directly in MT4/MT5. The steps are short enough to finish in about five minutes, and we also cover what to do if you’ve forgotten the password or can’t log in to your trading account at all.
The Different Vantage Passwords Explained
Before you change your Vantage trading password, make sure you’re targeting the right one. On Vantage, the Client Portal login, the MT4/MT5 trading password and the Investor password do completely different jobs.
| Password type | What it’s for | Can it place trades? |
|---|---|---|
| Client Portal password | Logging in to the client portal or the Vantage app | Not directly |
| Trading password (Master Password) | Logging in to your account on MT4/MT5 and trading | Yes |
| Investor password | Viewing the account and its trade history | No |
The Vantage Client Portal password
This is the password for logging in to the Vantage Client Portal or the Vantage app, where you manage your account, deposit, withdraw and adjust settings.
Keep in mind:
- The Client Portal password is not your MT4/MT5 password.
- Changing the Client Portal password does not change your trading password.
- If the only problem is logging in to MT4/MT5, you need the Master Password, not the Client Portal password.
The Vantage trading password on MT4/MT5
Your Vantage trading password, also called the Master Password, is what you use alongside your account number and server to log in to MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5.
Once logged in with it, you have full trading rights:
- Opening and closing positions.
- Adjusting Stop Loss or Take Profit.
- Placing pending orders.
- Managing your open positions.
This is the password this guide focuses on.
What is the Vantage Investor password?
The Vantage Investor password grants view-only access. Anyone logging in with it can see the balance, history and open positions but cannot open, close or modify any order.
It’s the right choice when you want a third party to monitor the account without handing over trading rights.
Quick rule: if your goal is to change the password you use to log in and place orders on MT4/MT5, change the trading password (Master Password) — not the Client Portal or Investor password.
How to Change Your Vantage Trading Password in the App
You can reset your Vantage trading password directly in the Vantage app. The process is straightforward: open Account & Security, choose Reset trading account password, pick the right account, and have Vantage email you a new password.
In summary:
- Open the Vantage app and tap the avatar icon.
- Go to Account & Security.
- Tap Reset trading account password.
- Select the trading account you want to reset.
- Tap Submit and check your email for the new password.
Step 1: Open the Vantage app and tap the avatar
From the Vantage app home screen, tap the avatar icon at the top of the display.

Depending on your app version, the icon sits either:
- Top right, or
- Top left.
Tapping it opens your account management area and personal settings.
Step 2: Go to Account & Security
In the account menu, find and open Account & Security.

This is where all the security settings for your Vantage account live, including the trading password reset.
Step 3: Choose “Reset trading account password”
Inside Account & Security, look for the Reset trading account password option.

Tap it to start the reset.
Remember this is the password for your MT4/MT5 trading account — not the one you use to log in to the Vantage app itself.
Step 4: Select the trading account to reset
Vantage lists every trading account attached to your profile.

Make sure you:
- Check the trading account number.
- Pick the right MT4 or MT5 account.
- Don’t select the wrong one if you run several accounts at once.
Each trading account has its own credentials, so it’s worth double-checking before you continue.
Step 5: Submit and check your email
With the right account selected, tap Submit to confirm the reset request.

Vantage sends the new trading password to the email address registered on the account.
Then:
- Open the email from Vantage.
- Note the new trading password.
- Open MT4 or MT5.
- Log back in with your account number, the new password and the correct server.
If the login works, your Vantage trading password has been changed successfully.
Note: never share your new trading password. It grants direct access to log in and trade on your MT4/MT5 account.
How to Change Your Vantage Trading Password Directly in MT4/MT5
As well as resetting through the Vantage app, you can change your Vantage trading password directly in MT4/MT5 — provided you still know the current one. This suits you if you can already log in and just want to set a stronger password.
If you haven’t installed the platform yet, get it from MetaTrader 5, official from MetaQuotes.

Changing your Vantage password on MT4/MT5 desktop
On the desktop version of MT4/MT5:
- Open MT4 or MT5 and log in to your Vantage account.
- Click Tools in the menu bar.
- Click Options.
- Switch to the Server tab.
- Click Change Password.
- Enter your current trading password.
- Enter the new password and confirm it.
- Click OK to save.
From then on, use the new password every time you log in.
Note: this method requires your current trading password. If you’ve forgotten it, use Reset trading account password in the Vantage app instead.
Changing your Vantage password on MT4/MT5 mobile
If you use MT4 or MT5 on your phone and still know the current password, you can change your Vantage trading password in five steps:
- Open the MT4/MT5 app and go to Settings.
- In Settings, tap the account box at the top.
- Select the Vantage account whose trading password you want to change.
- Tap Change password, then choose the Master password type.
- Enter your current password and your new password, confirm it, and finish.
Once confirmed, the new password becomes the Master password for logging in and trading on that MT4/MT5 account.
Note: check the account number carefully before changing anything, especially if you have several Vantage accounts in the same app. If you no longer remember the current password, use Reset trading account password in the Vantage app to receive a new one by email, then log back in to confirm it works.
When should you change it in MT4/MT5 instead?
Use this method when you:
- Still remember your current trading password.
- Can log in to MT4/MT5 normally.
- Want to set a stronger password proactively.
- Don’t want to wait for Vantage to email a new one.
If you’ve forgotten your Vantage trading password or can’t log in to MT4/MT5 at all, use the reset function in the Vantage app rather than trying to change it inside MetaTrader.
Forgotten Your Vantage Trading Password?
If you’ve forgotten your Vantage trading password, you can’t change it inside MT4/MT5, because the platform asks for the current one. Use Reset trading account password in the Vantage app to have a new password issued by email.
Once it arrives, check three things when logging in to MT4/MT5:
- Login: the correct trading account number.
- Password: the new one Vantage emailed you.
- Server: the correct server for that account.
If it still won’t log in, the problem may not be the password at all — it’s often the wrong server or the wrong MT4/MT5 account.
What if the reset email never arrives?
Work through these in order:
- Check your Spam/Junk folder.
- Confirm you’re checking the email address registered with Vantage.
- Verify the reset was sent for the right trading account.
- If nothing arrives, go to the Vantage Help Centre or use Live Chat to have your account checked.
Important: the app/Client Portal login and the MT4/MT5 trading password are two independent credentials. Resetting your Vantage app password will not change your trading password.
Security Tips for Your New Vantage Trading Password
After changing your Vantage trading password, set something genuinely strong and keep your credentials to yourself to reduce the risk of unauthorised access.

Some principles worth applying:
- Use at least 10 characters, mixing uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols.
- Don’t reuse an old password, or share one with your email, social media or other financial accounts.
- Never share your Master Password — it allows anyone to log in and trade directly.
- If a third party needs to monitor the account, give them the Investor password only, so they can view but not place or modify orders.
- Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA) for your Vantage account if it’s available to you.
- Change your password every 3–6 months, especially if you’ve logged in on an unfamiliar device or suspect your details have leaked.
- Don’t save passwords on public computers or phones, and avoid logging in to Vantage over untrusted Wi-Fi.
Tip: if you spot unusual login activity, change both your Vantage trading password and your app/Client Portal password immediately, then review your account’s security settings.
Summary
There are two main ways to change your Vantage trading password:
- Reset it in the Vantage app and receive a new password by email — best when you’ve forgotten the current one.
- Change it directly in MT4/MT5 — best when you still know the old password and want to update it proactively.
While you do it, keep the app/Client Portal password, the Master Password and the Investor password clearly separated so you don’t change the wrong one.
Once changed, just log back in with the correct account, password and server and carry on trading as normal.
If you trade with Vantage, it’s worth looking at the Vantage trading rebate programme with Backcom to cut your costs further — it has no effect on your MT4/MT5 account or on changing your password.
Vantage Trading Password FAQ
Will changing the password close my open trades?
No. Changing your Vantage trading password does not close open positions or erase your trade history. Your positions stay live on the broker’s system. You simply log back in to MT4/MT5 with the new password to keep managing the account.
Does changing the Client Portal password change the MT4/MT5 one?
No. The Client Portal/Vantage app password and the MT4/MT5 trading password are independent. Changing your Vantage login does not change your trading password — you have to do that separately, either in the security section or directly in MetaTrader.
Does changing the password affect my Backcom rebates?
No. Changing your trading password has no effect on your rebates, because the rebate system is linked to your trading account ID, not to your MT4/MT5 password.
You keep trading and receiving Vantage rebates with Backcom exactly as before.
