For Invalid price, Invalid stops or an inactive Place button, check quote side, distance and modification rules.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About Forex Order Types

What Is The Difference Between Buy Limit And Buy Stop?

A Buy Limit sits below Ask, such as the hypothetical 4,180.00 when Ask is 4,200.30. A Buy Stop sits above Ask, such as 4,225.00. The Sell Limit in the buy limit and sell limit pair sits above the market; the Sell Stop in the buy stop and sell stop pair sits below it. Use a limit for a pullback and a stop for a break.

Should I Use A Market Order Or A Pending Order?

A market order suits an immediate entry when you accept a possible price change or requote. A pending order suits a price level chosen in advance when you cannot watch the chart continuously. Either way, determine the SL and position size before sending the instruction. Check whether Bid or Ask will actually reach your chosen price.

Do Pending Orders, Stop Loss And Take Profit Work When MT4 Or MT5 Is Closed?

Yes. Pending orders, SL and TP remain on the broker’s server and may trigger while your computer is off. A Trailing Stop needs the platform running to keep moving SL, although the last SL already set remains in place. If continuous trailing is essential, consider a forex VPS and confirm that the platform stays connected.

Does A Pending Order In Forex Reserve Margin?

It depends on the broker and order type. MT5 can calculate margin for pending orders separately when the broker sets a nonzero margin rate. If free margin is insufficient at activation, the order may be canceled and marked Rejected in History. Check the symbol’s Specification and the margin calculation guide before stacking orders.

Is A Stop Loss Guaranteed To Close At My Chosen Price?

No. A Stop Loss may fill worse during news, thin liquidity or a weekend gap. If closing cannot be completed, MT5 may try again at the next qualifying tick. Size the position for losses that might exceed the planned amount, especially around fast markets. A stop level defines the trigger, not an unconditional maximum loss.

Conclusion

Forex order types make sense when you check three things together: where the order sits relative to the market, whether Bid or Ask triggers it, and whether price control or execution matters more. Before sending an order:

Show the Ask line when monitoring buy entries and Sell positions.

Check Stops level in Specification before placing pending orders.

Set stop loss and take profit from a calculated risk amount.

Remove pending orders that no longer fit before major news.

The forex money management guide connects SL distance with position size.

Disclaimer: Backcom.io compiled this content for information only; it is not investment advice or a trading recommendation.
